Metric Explainer #1 - Dangerous Action Under Intense Pressure

Quantifying how players are able to create threat while operating under high pressure situations.

Some of the most valuable moments in football come when players turn high-pressure situations into dangerous ones. Dangerous Actions Under Intense Pressure capture exactly that, quantifying how often players are able to create threat while operating under high or very high pressure at reception.

By identifying possessions that begin under intense pressure and lead to an increased likelihood of resulting in a goal shortly after, this metric highlights players who can maintain effectiveness in constrained, high-demand situations and generate danger.

Applied use cases

Wide Players

Find profiles who can operate under pressure on the flank or in half-spaces, beating defenders or creating dangerous actions despite limited time and space.

Metric Definition

A Dangerous Action Under Intense Pressure is a possession that starts under high pressure or very high pressure and results in either a shot or a pass that has a 2% or higher probability of resulting in a goal within 10 seconds.

The initial Overall Pressure Degree is driven by four key components: the time defenders have to close down the ball carrier, the space available to the receiver, the ease of passing options, and the technical difficulty of the reception.

Each of these is assessed on a five-level scale, from Very Easy to Very Difficult.

These elements are then combined into a single, model-based metric — the Overall Pressure Degree — expressed on a scale from None to Very High.
